What is IELTS?
IELTS stands for International English Language Testing System
It Is A Standardised Test That Measures The English Language Proficiency Of Non-Native Speakers. It is accepted by more than 11k Universities and colleges globally. The Test Has Four Sections:
- Listening
- Reading
- Writing
- Speaking
IELTS TEST TYPES
Generally, the test is of two types
- Academic
- General
Academic:
Listening: The Listening section consits 3-4 sections of 40 questions and half an hour is given to complete the whole task. In listening four recordings of English speakers are played and test takers have to answer questions based on the conversation or lecture they listen.
Reading: The reading section included 3 sections of 40 questions and it takes one hour to complete. Test-takers will read three passages and answer questions based on the passages.
Writing: In writing there are two tasks and 1 hour is given for the completion of both the tasks.
In Task 1,there is information realted to the graphs, tables, or diagram and test-takers have to explain the information atleast 150 words in thier own words.
In Task 2, test-takers will be presented with an argument or point of view, or a problem or situation and will be asked to write an essay in response.
Speaking: The speaking is divided into three parts and takes 11-14 minutes to complete the whole task. In Part 1, test-takers will answer general questions, for instance, about themselves and their home country.
In Part 2, the examiner will giev a cue acrd on that test-takers have to speak about 1-2 minutes. In Part 3, test-takers will have a 4-5 minute conversation with the examiner about the topic in Part 2.
The IELTS Academic test is intended for test-takers who want to study or work in an English-speaking academic or professional environment, such as in countries like Canada, Australia, the UK, and so on.
General
The general IELTS is mainly used for migration purposes. It is also divided into four sections; however, there are some changes only in the writing pattern in contrast to academic IELTS.
Writing: In writing there are two tasks and 1 hour is given for the completion of both the tasks.
Task 1 consist a letter that could be formal or informal, morover it can be a request, point of supporting or opposing the situation.
However Task 2 is similar to the Academic IELTS.
